Let us all have a rally to move back to our countries on 4July2008 to symbolically show that we want our Freedom and Independence and never return back.
If all the articles about reverse brain drain we are reading about is true they would do something to solve this GC situation. Otherwise the anti-immigrants will come to see us off while we depart this country and never to return back as H1B's trying to get GC's and live here. This will go into history, 30yrs from now and our grandchildren will read about it. And may be we will get some special pension at our home countries for returning back and helping it to do better.
Please take the poll to indicate if you would participate in this QUIT AMERICA MOVEMENT FOR OUR FREEDOM AND INDEPENDENCE
Your PD is 05/2003... I confidently bet you would not be in a queue for the guys who will go back.:D:D:D. By 4th July 2008 mostly you will be done with this wait hell.. Even if somebody who will be going back wants to track you , you would not be trackable on 4th July 2008.:mad::mad::mad: So please keep patience and help others to maintain the same at least.

Yes it applies for IV too. We have a handful of monthly subscribers because everyone wants the other person to pay for it. If the problem needs to be solved, each victim needs to fight this problem.
Do let us know the outcome of your complaint.
Please also inform others how you went about making this complaint.
I have not been able to get even one personal friend participate in IV or donate to IV though they are enjoying AC21 benefits and work done by IV. Whenever I speak about IV they get angry and discourage further talk. They talk about EAD traacking, etc.... but are tight lipped when we talk about IV. Some stopped talking to me and say "it is because of IV" . Some say, "we do not believe in IV" but hideously visit IV website anonymously. It is nothing but hypocracy.

if flowers campaign was a grand success, why not try this?
There is nothing to lose
Flower Campaign - Smart Strategy - Hence grand success
This - Foolish and crazy thought... forget strategy... Photo on a Grand Children's wall with garland(shoes) on it.
I sense " lost mind" just reading about this idea... So that is the start point for you to count what will be lost if this is done.. You or any other can add up other piles on top of that..

With the attitude towards immigration in this country, i really doubt this bill will pass :(, i really hope it does though, i think the USICS is a strong believer of "sabar ka phal meeta hota hai", translated, the fruit of a long wait is sweet, i just hope the wait is not too long and the fruit rotten
Also, i am ready to help/organize/contribute for the community to make these bills pass....

Very well summarized, recently I took the visitor insurance for my mother-in-law from .org. Before taking the insurance I called them and asked in details about pre-existing conditions and how it works. He told me in very simple words that for people who are aged above 45 plus they consider everything as pre-existing (he says its all because of age factor), any visitor insurance is only good if there is any accident (slipping from staircase, car accident...). so in a nutshell he said they will consider everything as pre-existing for aged people. I argued with him how come if they never have any History of BP and after coming here , if they have BP and sugar, then what? he says it just does not come suddenly, so its pre-existing.. I don't have the answer for him. After researching some more insurance companies, I took from them.
FinalGC,
You have summed it up correctly. Comprehensive insurance from a reputed US company/broker like AIG (not TATA-AIG) is the way to go. I had the same for my parents. Luckily, there was no need for us to use it but I know friends who have used it and were not left in soup (it worked as well as it was supposed to work).
Recently, one of my friend's dad came to Texas and got sick and the bill came to $60K. Unfortunatley, he did not buy travelers insurance and is fighting an uphill battle with the hospital.
My parents are coming next month, so I did a detailed research on all the insurance firms, both in India and in USA and I found that most of the ICICI or Tata-AIG plans have limited coverage, which limits the number of days in an ICU or visits by doctors etc.. Even if the plan has a $100K max, the plan may only cover upto $1000 per day for 30 days or so and then there is limitation for ICU and other surgeries. However, if you take a comprehensive coverage, then whatever the expenses, or wherever the charges are incurred, it does not matter. The total amount upto $100K will be covered and it does not limit ICU charges or room charges or doctor visits etc.
The only reason we need an insurance for parents is to cover emergencies, rather than regular doctor visits. Generally, any emergency run 60-70K, so I would recommend a minimum of $100K and do a comprehensive coverage. I have worked with IMG or check this guy at http://www.visitorshealthinsurance.com/
I even called IMG to ensure that this guy is an authorized re-seller/broker for the insurance.
Additionally, I did not find any insurance that covers pre-existing conditions. So just pray that they are healthy during their stay in US.
Yes, it is little expensive, but better peace of mind with comprehensive. If you do a local US insurance, then it is easy to get the insurance paper work done, when needed, rather than doing an Indian based insurance, which may need additional paper work and money transfer may get delayed.

I have contributed $200 to the Omnibus fund drive and intend to contribute a lot more in the coming months. However, I would not have been a member of IV if this were a paid site.
I prefer that the contributions are voluntary and I am an example of someone who joined IV as a member and then CHOOSE to contribute to the cause. If IV had asked me to become a member by paying $200, I certainly would not have joined.
I vote to keep the site free and allow free flow of information. By making this a paid site we hurt the cause that IV is fighting for and we hurt potential members who would contribute.
I want to ask members who have contributed $500 - $1000, if this site asked that much for you to join would you have joined? If so would you continue to contribute after paying this much money? After paying money to a pay site there is a sense of entitlement that people feel. They feel that they have already paid their due and they will not contribute additional funds thinking that they have already paid once when choosing to be a member.
I urge the administrators and core member to please keep this site voluntary and free.

Please don't use the thread for just -- discussions sans actions .
Do take some actions - Have you contacted and posted your Comments to WWJ yet?
Coming to your point, just like he won't stop visiting hospitals for annual physicals to avoid Indian doctors and Phillipino nurses, he won't stop using Boeing either.
I bet he owns a foreign (European) car too. Like somebody pointed out CNN itself has hundreds of "cheap labor" H1B immigrants working for them. His wife is a Mexican. Do you think he's avoiding private moments with her to avoid TB and leprosy?
Lou Dobbs isn't a zealot. He is just an opportunistic hypocrite who's using "nativist populism" to get high TRP ratings for his show, and he has been immensely successful!
http://www.alipac.us/ftopicp-526504-.html#526504
So do you think he will stop using Boeing and walk to Detroit?

Hi Gurus,
I need an advice from you.
The situation:
-- Involved in a collision few months back. As I had rear ended the vehicle, as per the investigation, it was found it was my fault(80% mine - 20% others)
-- Now after more than 18 months, I get a law suit for 3.25 million dollars(. This was served against ppl who were involved. Right now my I have my EAD and AP and maintaining H1 status.
So what are my options now?
1. Check with attorney and start defending..?
2. pack the bags and go back to my country ? If so, will there be any issues in coming back again, say after 3,4 years?
3. What about my GC?
Any help would be greatly appreciated and I guess it would be a biggest decision of my life ..
Thx,
PD is Nov 2006.
What is the lawsuit about? Is it by the insurance company suspecting some kind of scam?
In any case, you must defend yourself. If you just run away, then you might find yourself in 3 million dollar debt and all your assets frozen, even in India (assuming you are not planning to live the life of a fugitive!).

I am planning on sending some question so the Hillary Clinton Townhall. I will check in with the experts before I send them in
Employment based immigration is a very small part of legal immigration.
Here is a break down of legal immigration #s for 2006 according to Yearbook of Immigration Statistics, published by Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Office of Immigration Statistics (OIS) (available at Spotlight on Legal Immigration to the United States (http://www.migrationinformation.org/USfocus/display.cfm?id=651) By Gretchen Reinemeyer and Jeanne Batalova | Migration Policy Institute, November 2007).
1,266,264 immigrants were granted legal residence in 2006.
159,081 immigrants who received green cards through sponsorship from their US employers accounted for 12.6% of all legal permanent residents.
However, 87,702 (or 55.1%) of the employment-sponsored immigrants were spouses and children of principal applicants.
The share of employment-preference immigrants has varied between 3.3 percent (59,525) in 1991 and 22 percent (246,878) in 2005.
The other categories are family preference (802,712), refugee + asylee (216,454), Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA) of 1986 + parolees (43,546) and Diversity Lottery (44,471).
Employment based immigration is legal. However, it may help to add legal to the title.
Employment based immigration is skilled. I think employment based immigration includes cooks, priests, .... They consider themselves to be skilled just like everyone else!
If you just ask for improving legal immigration, they will improve family based or asylum.
As some persons learnt yesterday, legal immigration has very low priority as compared to undocumented. Similarly, employment based immigration has no priority in legal immigration!

Well then why dont you picket against NumbersUSA, programmers guild et al too, i can name 20 conservative radio shows try emailing/talking them to change their opinion. I say this because i have emailed to a few and even tho they understand my point of view they will not change something that gets them ratings and propagates their cause.
IV has 25k members, i guess 10% out of those are really motivated to participate and ready do something, if you start diverting your resources towards such issues your team will not have much motivation or people remaining when you really need them to do something. IMO
Quoting Gandhi left and right is becoming pass now, its like desi politicians, invoking Gandhi for everything. What will you do if you have convinced ALL lawmakers but they still do not vote for you because of public opposition generated by Lou DoGGS? The FACT (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showpost.php?p=98473&postcount=595) (NOT opinion) on immigration: In evident pain and remorse, a Republican Senator confessed to a Hispanic group from Maryland that his vote to kill immigration reform was “a profile in political cowardice.”.
Todays New York's Id (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showpost.php?p=194883&postcount=1455) example:
Mr. Spitzer’s decision to abandon his plan comes as a poll released Tuesday by Siena College found that seven in 10 New York voters who had heard about it — and more than 80 percent of the 625 registered voters polled had — opposed it. It also found that for the first time, more people viewed the governor unfavorably than favorably.
The governor and his aides said that they were not reacting to the slumping poll numbers, but acting pragmatically. That the dispute had even tripped up Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, who stumbled to answer a question about it in a presidential debate, “was symptomatic of where we were,” he said.
“The issue was gaining traction not based on thoughtful discourse, but based on sound bites and less than careful analysis,” he added.

To avoid transaction charges let users pay quarterly or half-yearly recurring. i.e. if one wants to donate 5$/ month so it will be 30$/ 6 months etc.
It is a good idea to save on recurring charges but monthly contribution will help IV plan things in advance. Whatever you can, donate now and raise the bar!
To raise your spirit, whatever amount you donate now, I will double it IV - send me a PM once you made the payment.

* AILAs Business Litigation Comm. Re: Neufeld memo*by*H-1 Cap Blog (http://www.h1cap.com/?p=121)
The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) has a Business Litigation Committee (BLC) and we met this week and the hot topic of discussion was the recently released Neufeld memo. There is a strong belief that the memo was issued in violation of the Administrative Procedures Act. There is also the belief that the memo violates long-standing precedent and established law. It is believed that there are numerous industry groups as well as individual companies that may be pursuing litigation on this matter. The BLC is in the process of working with the American Immigration Council to create a special section within its clearinghouse service http://www.legalactioncenter.org/litigation-clearinghouse (http://www.h1cap.com/blocked::http://www.legalactioncenter.org/litigation-clearinghouse) specifically dedicated to collecting and posting relevant documents and information on this issue. This will allow all interested parties to be kept up to date on efforts being made to address this policy. We are looking for information regarding actual litigation as well as significant meetings, letters, etc. to USCIS officials as well as Congressional members on this topic. We will then organize the relevant documentation and make it available for access by others. If you are interested in participating in this clearinghouse effort, please keep us updated on your efforts. contact mfh@hammondlawfirm.com for additional info.
Any update on this? Any legal update?
It seems no one is talking about this memo anymore.
