Rallying under the slogan �No Paddy Left Behind,� about 900 Irish and Irish-Americans packed a town hall meeting in Woodside on immigration reform Friday evening. Speakers urged the audience, many of whom are undocumented immigrants, to call their elected officials in support of the Kennedy-McCain immigration reform bill. Currently before the Senate, the measure would allow undocumented immigrants to remain in the United States and earn a chance to apply for permanent residency. An alternative bill that already passed the House of Representatives would turn the country�s 11 million undocumented immigrants into criminals, subject to arrest by local authorities. �If you are an undocumented immigrant in the United States, at the moment you have two choices: You can either stay put and hide, or you can lose everything you have,� said Kelly Fincham, executive directors of the newly formed Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform, which organized the meeting at St. Mary�s Help of Christians Catholic Church. Fincham urged those in attendance, even ones who cannot vote, to call or e-mail their U.S. senators and representatives and ask them to vote for the Kennedy-McCain bill. �Do you really want your future to be decided behind closed doors in Washington, or do you want to have a voice?� she asked. An early indicator of the success of her group, formed in December, was the attendance of U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, who received a standing ovation after addressing the Friday meeting. �If we were to cut off immigration in this country within two, three or four generations, we would become a tired, stagnant, stratified society,� he said. New York �is a special place because of immigration and the worst we could do is close the door,� he added. Other speakers at the meeting urged audience members to sign up and bring their friends to a March 8 bus trip to lobby Congress in Washington, D.C. Groups from cities such as Boston will also be bused in. �This is about living a normal life without fear so you can go and enjoy life in the greatest country on earth,� said Naill O�Doud, chairman of the Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform. Congress is expected to pass sweeping immigration reform legislation later this year affecting America�s estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants, of whom around 40,000 are Irish. One version, which already passed the House of Representatives, is an �enforcement only� bill sponsored by Representatives James Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.) and Peter King (R-N.Y.). Known as the Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act, the measure makes it harder for legal permanent residents to become U.S. citizens by allowing government officials to deny naturalization applications based on subjective information or secret evidence. The measure intensifies sanctions against employers who hire undocumented immigrants and requires them to confirm the authenticity of their workers� Social Security numbers. It gives local police the power to enforce immigration laws and penalizes states and cities that protect confidentiality of immigrant crime victims and witnesses. Other provisions would make drunken driving a deportable offense and mandate the construction of five double-layer border fences at a cost of $3.2 million per mile. The Kennedy-McCain bill, known as the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act, was introduced before the Senate last year by Senators Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.). The measure would permit undocumented or �illegal� immigrants currently living in America to obtain work visas for up to six years. They could apply for permanent residency after paying fines, passing a background check and completing a period under a temporary visa. The bill would also create a new path to legal immigration through a temporary worker program. Undocumented Irish immigrants present at the meeting said current laws prevent them from returning home to visit family. They pay taxes, but cannot apply for health insurance or open bank accounts, much less obtain a driver�s license. Another told similar stories of friends who had advanced degrees but could only find work as laborers. �You�re nervous all the time. You�re always looking over your shoulder,� he said.

1. "PLEASE Put your real dates in your profile" There is no provision to put dates for CP filers!! All the dates are for 485 filers.
Though it is proven time and again that CP filers are the least needed people on this forum (next to EB3 I - going by this thread), it is unfair not reserving few columns on the profile for CP filers ... It doesn't cost VISA numbers for that...
2. I have told this before but would like to repeat now... I don't contribute because there is nothing for CP filers here. VISA recapturing is the only effort that would benefit CP filers but anyway the chances of that bill passing is close to 0.

If something somewhere gets fixed it surely benefits the immigrants and brings hope for other things that need to be fixed. Don't you think if the EB system here was fixed, IV would have been able to focus on CP ?

the mailed date was recently added as a column.. till now ppl were using receipt date column as application reached.. wait till fp dates and notice dates get populated...the earliest i have seen is for ppl current in june who have a receipt date of 06/29

I absolutely agree with Logiclife and all posts supporting him/her. IV Core, you guys rock. There is no question about your integrity or selflessness. I understand the Time, Money, Effort and Sacrifices many of you have made to fight for this common cause. Please do not get discouraged by some mindless posts. Remember that for every single disgruntled voice on this forum, there are hundreds of supporters. Albeit, some silent and some active.

When can you file WOM? It's a grey area. When the Name Check has been pending for more than 2 years like in my situation, then you definitely have "a case". However, I have heard that some people do it after "only" one year.
Impossible to tell really when it's the "best" time to do it...

Since we are looking for options....Maybe we can help each other grow technically...possibly by the time we get our GC. Then we could start a company, which will have satellite office across the USA. Then get Vinod Khosla to provide Venture Capital.....:) :D
So to start the process of helping.....here is what I can offer....I am Elect Engg grad from IIT, Roorkee, got my MBA from Kansas and have a PMP, which I got in 1999. Last Year I was elected the President for the Local PMI (Project Management Institute) Chapter in Michigan. ......So if any of you need any help on project management or getting a PMP, I could at least guide you what needs to be done. Please send a private email to me and I could help you enhance your skills in Project Management.
I have been waiting for my GC for almost 10 years. During this time I have managed to trust in God. I continued to increase my education and increased my business network during these years, which has helped me increase my "Face Value" in the US Market.
Here are some suggestion...-Try getting involved in Non-Profit organizations in US or India or possibly go help somebody. Trust me there is more to life than Green Card......I remember asking a friend of mine what was his reaction after waiting for GC for 8 years and then getting it.....He did not have a positive answer.
So when GC will come, it will come....Increase your education, give back to society (maybe help some of your old neighbours who do not have a way to get around), maybe you want teach (Free) math or science to a student in your downtown area. When you look around you will see many people are waiting to be touched by you, through the talents that God has given you......
So keep moving...do not sit back....do something.....A small pool of water will become a swamp, since it does not move, while a river which is flowing swiftly will reach its destination...
Keep fighting the GC battle!!!!

They moved from 8/1/2002 to 9/22/2002.
According to the I485 inventory they published, there is what.. 400 cases between these two date, why only move 400 cases per month = 4800 per year when the annual quota for EB3 ROW is what.. around 30,000?
Never mind the spillover, can ROW just get its normal quota at least?

As I mentioned in one of my post not even 100 persons responded. It either means there is not much persons who are impacted by the memo or most are not interested. For many people to participate they will need to know the details and directions. But most update might be in donor forum. So I think in future IV will get good efforts from only donor members. But if enough donor members are there then that will be ok for IV to get success in any drive. Otherwise it will be tough as there will not be enough people for advocacy efforts
But this drive might have added a few donor members. In that way it is good.
I am in "Not in H1 and not affected" category but willing to contribute both time and money for this cause.

We all had a good time so far in US compared to the freshers .
It seems like any change in the immigration system is only going to land us in a worst position than we are in....
And looking at what is happening, I think it is naive to think we can influence the system to make it better for us.
Any noise we make seems to be making our opponents solidify and press us even harder.
I know this is not an upbeat comment that every IV member seem to expect, but this has been a depressing week, in an already depressing decade. :(

How can we figure out the net assets from a 1120S tax return? I have the copy of company tax return with me and I am "accounting challenged". Can some one please help me figure out the net assets, so that I can answer my ability to pay RFE.

Company tax returns can only show the NET INCOME . You need an Audited Financial Statement prepared by a CPA to show NET ASSETS
